I try to write in different styles and on different topics as often as I can in order to challenge myself, and fiction is the genre I tend to avoid the most! Not because I don't love it, but for the exact reasons you outlined! It's intimidating. It takes a lot of planning and labor, and knowing that all of the work may not be appreciated immediately?
